Sam Van de Velde - Exercise Physiologist
Sam began his undergraduate degree and distance running collegiate career at the University of Oregon finishing as an All-American at Western Colorado University. Sam completed his undergrad a degree in Sport and Exercise Science in 2014. His passion for mountain sports: skiing, mountain biking, and trail running, Nordic Skiing led him to continue at Western to complete a master’s degree (2016) in High Altitude Exercise Physiology at Western Colorado University in Gunnison, Colorado.
While in graduate school, Sam focused on environmental exercise physiology, sports nutrition, and exercise physiology with implications on health, disease, and human performance. Following school Sam had stents coaching University of Idaho Cross Country & Track, Cardiac Rehabilitation, and starting a disease prevention program at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center. Lastly, before arriving at Lone Peak Performance Sam was a Professor at Colorado Mountain College teaching Human Nutrition, Human Health & Wellness.
Sam strives for scientific stands based on the philosophy of ‘evidence-based practice,’ Sam’s clients and athletes are provided with training regimens and testing protocols that are optimized to fit the specific needs of the individual. His specific interests as an Exercise Physiologist include endurance training, environmental physiology, sports nutrition, and biomechanical efficiency. When he’s not in the lab, you can find Sam mountain biking, skiing (snowboarding on epic powder days), trail running, nordic skiing the best trails that Montana has to offer.
